Other Addictive Behaviors

In looking at the diagnostic criteria for substance use disorders, many clinicians and researchers believe that these criteria could be applied to behaviors outside of substance use to classify other addictive behaviors. To this end, gambling disorder was added as a diagnostic classification in the DSM-5. Imagine that you are on the next DSM revision committee. What addictive behavior (not including substance use or gambling) would you lobby to include as a diagnostic classification? Explain your reasoning for including this addictive behavior. Use your textbook and the Argosy University online library resources to support your position.NOTE:  What references or resources should I use?  Use your text!!! Yes, please do — it is very well done.  Use the Argosy class lectures also.  Use journal articles or books from the AU library.  Frankly, in this class, most if not all of your information can come from the class lectures and your textbook!  Use them!  Government sources (.gov) and other college sources (.edu) may also be used.Do NOT use websites such aswikipedia, about.com, allpsych.com, eHow.com, livestrong.com, dictionary.com, etc.  They are not appropriate resources for college level writing. All assignments, whether handed in to the Dropbox or posted in a discussion thread, must be edited for spelling and grammar.4. All assignments must be written in APA format, including a title page, headers with page numbers and a separate references page. All reference materials must be cited in APA style. Please refer to the APA Publication Manual, or the APA Learning Center if you need assistance in APA style citations or references. I’ve posted announcements and docs (in doc sharing) to help.5. All assignments require the application of scholarly materials. Writing that is not your own personal idea (i.e. came from, or was inspired by any outside source) MUST be cited. (Very little that you will write in this course is original — you are learning and digesting material from academic sources in this course, maybe adding your personal reflection at times.)  This includes discussion answers and participation posts, as well as written assignments handed in to the Dropbox. Absence of appropriate citations (even if you didn’t copy the text word-for-word) is a form of plagiarism . Please refer to the Academic Guidelines and Policies area for information about Argosy’s Academic Dishonesty and Plagiarism Policy.By Friday, May 8, 2015, post your response.
