Criminal Justice

Each assignment needs to be at least 1 ½ pages in length (do not do it by word count) and please no headlines. Will be checked using turnitin for plagiarism.#1The article Distinction Between Conflict and Radical Criminology (http://scholarlycommons.law.northwestern.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=6223&context=jclc)defines and explores the differences between these criminological theories (Bernard, 1981). After reflecting on the article, discuss how criminologists can address the issues and contentions raised about conflict criminology. Evaluate the various sociological schools of crime causation to assist in guiding your response.#2The article “Predicting Homicide Clearances in Chicago: Investigating Disparities in Predictors Across Different Types of Homicide” discusses the research gap using Chicago homicide data from 1991 to 2002 to identify predictive factors in homicide clearances (Alderden & Lavery, 2007). (Unfortunately the authors haven’t made the full article available for download so I had to copy & paste the abstract). Discuss some of the predictive factors in homicide clearances. Discuss the aforementioned using terms associated with the study of crime and criminology.ABSTRACTFew studies examine homicide clearances despite trends across many jurisdictions that show a decrease in homicides cleared each year. This study addresses that research gap using Chicago homicide data from 1991 to 2002 to identify predictive factors in homicide clearances. Across five logistic regression models we found that victim and incident characteristics were significant predictors of homicide clearances, although the number and types of significant predictors were varied across the analyses. Moreover, we found differences in the factors that significantly predicted clearances for three specific homicide circumstances: expressive, instrumental, and gang-related.
